YOUTH SPORTS

Youth Sports, Growth and Development Therapy

Youth push themselves hard in community and elite level sports. I have worked closely with sports including rugby, hockey, track and field, judo, lacrosse, soccer, boxing, football, rodeo, baseball, softball, skateboarding, roller-derby, equestrian sports, to name a few.

This can lead to normal aches and pains that come and go – such as delayed onset muscle soreness.

But when the aches and pains are lasting more than a couple days, or are more focused like pain in the calf which gets worse with running and jumping, then having a physiotherapy assessment and treatment can prevent the small things from growing into larger issues.

The idea is always to be able to run and jump and play our best and my physiotherapy objective is to help kids stay there by settling down the fresh injury and rebuilding the resilience and strength for full return to play.

I have extensive experience working with BC Children’s Hospital and the paediatric orthopaedic surgeons on Vancouver Island for managing youth sports injuries from ankle sprains, foot fractures, shoulder strains, little leaguer’s elbow, tendonitis, fractures, numbness and tingling with exercise, jumper’s knee, runner’s knee, youth back pain, patellar dislocations, and post-surgical treatment.

Growth and Development Physiotherapy

On top of sports and activity youth experience many growth and development changes. These can lead to other aches and pains such as Osgood-Schlatter’s, and Siding-Larsen-Johansson syndrome, patellar femoral pain, leg and thigh pain. Other concerns can arise with Scoliosis, severe in-toing and out-toeing, osteochondritis dissecans, and other more rare disorders. And children are also impacted by other actions such as motor vehicle accidents.

Working with the teams of BC Children’s hospital and the paediatric orthopaedic team of Vancouver Island, using youth sports growth and development therapy I can help your child recover and get back to the activities they love after traumatic injuries.
