CONCUSSION THERAPY

Concussions can happen from everyday accidents like slips and falls, to work accidents like hitting your head on framing and things falling on you head, and from contacts during any sport.  When we experience a concussion the nerves in the brain become stretched. The nerves then release a massive amount of chemicals  The brain then has to clean this up and reset, however, it has a reduced amount of blood flow  The result is an increased metabolic demand with a decreased ability to deliver what is needed.

Pediatric Concussion Therapy details

  • Concussions can happen without a direct impact to our heads.
  • I keep treatment services direct. I use the strongest evidence from the world authorities on concussion and my continuing education comes direct from universities and university researchers
  • I also draw on my experiences from my own concussions where I found that getting back to relevant exercises helped me return to sport and work
  • Baseline testing
    • The worlds best brains on brains are showing that baseline testing for our children is not just discouraged, it is contraindicated. Kids change so quickly that even a normal kid with excellent sports skill can test poorly. Without every having had a head injury.
    • The poor nature of baseline testing in children can give us a false sense of security when considering a return to play.
    • That is why I base my recovery programs on symptoms and ability to complete complex tasks and plays before considering that return to play and return to school. And not on a score on a sheet.
